About Us
We (Dan and Lauren) started Funky Timber to bring a love for timber and an eye for design and detail to our customers’ projects. We love it when our customers achieve their dream look, and we like things to be different, less focussed on mass produced and boring projects. We’ve always thought that life is too short for boring bland identikit home, holidays or anything else, and we decided to apply the same logic to running our own business.
We have a young family and we’ve built our company around our family life, so that Dan can continue his passion for joinery with Lauren supporting in sales and marketing. Family, work life balance, quality of life, and a lovely home are all as important to us as they are to our customers. We love the autonomy, independence and the opportunity to do things our way – the funky way!
With over 30 years of carpentry experience, we pride ourselves in offering our customers quality products to transform any room, with the option of tailoring pieces to fit your home or workplace at competitive prices.

Materials
We source top quality materials with wood and steel and this is all prepared in our warehouse, located in St Helens, Merseyside. Our team also includes dedicated fabricators on site with over 20 years experience, meaning we can offer steel products and bespoke designs and sizes.
We offer our clients a wide range of products from timber cladding with various colour and design options, to bespoke Funky Timber branded furniture, which continues to grow. Every piece of furniture is handcrafted in house meaning each single item is individual to that special customer.

Our Business
Describe the ways in which your business has diversified, or how your business has innovated in your sector
We started off with just 3 or 4 types and colors of cladding, trading from a small storage unit. Today, we have grown to a 3,000 sq. ft. unit with a showroom, where we now stock over 500 different types and finishes of premium cladding. This includes options for older styles, reclaimed, and recycled cladding, catering to a wide range of customer needs and sustainability trends.
Our diversification doesn’t stop at cladding. We branched into bespoke furniture, crafting premium oak or recycled timber pieces. We also entered fabrication, hiring a welder to produce custom steel table legs, brackets, and bespoke steel furniture orders. Our joinery installation service now operates across the UK, transforming bars, restaurants, homes, and businesses, earning us 5-star reviews from clients for our craftsmanship and service quality.
In terms of digital innovation, we started with a simple Facebook page to share our vision and products. Under the leadership of Lauren, our Sales Director, we’ve expanded into e-commerce, with thriving stores on eBay (over 16,000 followers and 100% positive reviews), Etsy (with 5-star reviews), and a constantly evolving website. We’ve also built strong presences on Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other platforms, further enhancing our brand visibility.
Tell us about the changes that drove your business' transformation/the need to innovate.
Times are changing, trends change, the environment and running an Eco friendly business is at the forefront of the governments initiatives, and with that we need to keep growing, investing and keeping up with the times in order to achieve, grow and succeed in the market and compete against any competitors.
Environment was a key driver and always will be- which is why we grew the cladding into not only the new kiln dried timber, but the reclaimed, aged and weathered recycled timber, re-using wood, creating amazing projects for like-minded people across the UK. This has been implemented in the Furniture we create too.
Social Media and Online shopping platforms- social media is absolutely key for all new/modern businesses to reach all demographics across the UK and the world where we have now grown into shipping overseas. we spend a lot of time creating fantastic content showcasing our fabulous bespoke work which gains a lot of feedback & presence online. we opened an etsy store just over 12 months ago because Lauren believed our brand sat perfectly within Etsy, with the store now over 12 months established, purely down to a lot of hard work building the store with little/no knowledge of etsy, we now have a star rated shop, we have managed to branch into the US (Crown Plaza ordering our Bespoke furniture), Switzerland, Denmark, Ireland, Italy & Australia.. which is an unbelievable success. we will continue to grow with premium brochures that have now been designed to reach the higher end market and to provide customers with great material to sell our brand.

We supply and deliver timber cladding all over the UK, more recently shipping internationally;

We specialise in fabrication where we have a welder who makes all of our steel table legs, brackets and bespoke steel furniture orders.
We provide a joinery & installation service all across the UK transforming bars/restaurants/homes/businesses/hotels to name a few.. with 5 Star reviews. We began in 2019 as Dan and Lauren..! Dan with his passion for joinery, and lauren with a fantastic career in sales. from what was an idea & a vision around family and children, we now have a fully established and fantastic business with outstanding reviews, a workforce of great employees, a large business unit in St Helens and a business which continues to grow through the hard work of everyone combined!

We believe funky timber should win this category because if anyone deserves this award its us! we have worked incredibly hard over the last 4 years, grown a business during a pandemic which was quite the challenge but we overcame any obstacle that hit us. we have invested a lot of money which looking back was quite a leap and a gamble and a risk, but with our drive, vision and determination, it has been the key driver into watching our family business grow and succeed in the market. we have become leaders in this market, we constantly are looking at what to add to the range and what else we can offer customers, where we can become more environmentally friendly : whether that’s our products, our packaging, our marketing material, our vehicles you name it, we strive to achieve and grow and look after our planet at the same time!
Not only that, we are a family business and have 2 daughters, ages 2 and 4, and they are behind our vision and determination!
